A Good Cause

A Canadian mining corporation is proposing to the State of Alaska that they be permitted to develop one of the largest gold and copper mines in the world, between Lake Iliamna and the Mulchatna River, at the headwaters of the Bristol Bay watershed. This area is home to the largest Sockeye salmon run in the world, the largest Chinook salmon run in Alaska, and within Alaska’s designated trophy wild rainbow trout area. Even worse, if this mine is permitted, it may open the door to the development of a major, industrialized mining district covering thousands of square miles in the Bristol Bay watershed.
